Prince-Helmed LoveMusik Readies for Broadway Bow

LoveMusik, a new musical about the relationship between Kurt Weill and his wife, Lotte Lenya, is expected to hit the Great White Way later this year, according to Variety. Harold Prince will be the director.

The show will use the Weill song catalog and feature a book by Alfred Uhry who notably worked with Prince on Parade. Weill and Lenya married in 1926, two years before she made a splash playing the part of Jenny in his The Threepenny Opera in Germany. Lenya, who was Jewish, fled Germany in favor of Paris in 1933; she divorced Weill that same year. They reunited a couple of years later and remarried in America in 1937.

LoveMusik has been in development for a while with an out-of-town 2006 premiere in mind. The show will still have a tryout before it hits the Great White Way, but exact plans for it have not been announced yet.
